Storms throw up a lovely surf on Cape Ann and the back shore is a great place to go to watch it, provided it hasn't inundated the road and closed it. Or carried away large chunks of it. Once, I saw the gigantic eye of a whale from the back shore, and every Memorial Day, we throw flowers into the sea there and think of our dead.
