As we sailed into this harbor, we could see the fog behind us. We got the boat anchored and settled and then hurried ourselves into the dinghy with our painting gear so we could get started before the fog socked in. I got my drawing done and took careful note of the sun on the far shore and painted that first. Next the rocks with their spots of sun. And then the fog started creeping in. By the time we'd finished painting and figured out how to get the dinghy, which had dropped with the tide and now required some rock climbing to get to, the fog was in the harbor. And by the time we got supper started, it was thick enough that we could only see the boats nearest us. We were glad we didn't have to be anywhere else. It also explained the heavy boat traffic in the morning as we were leaving Mt. Desert I. and the almost total lack of boats all afternoon. It was rather eerie. Going ashore, sitting on rocks still warm from the sun, smelling the island smell of seaweed, bay, and spruce was reassuring.
