As a special treat, my husband occasionally drives me up to the White Mountains.  We take the winding scenic road up to the Kancamagus Pass, stopping at the various pullouts to paddle our feet in the icy Swift River, admire the gorges and waterfalls, or hike.  At the top, we stop and paint the view.  Once over the pass, we turn around and head back down and home.  The sun is usually low and we know we'll be driving home in the dark.
