One of the great things about the Maine islands is that you can see the mountains from many of them. In this case, I was watching the mountains turn purple against the pink sky just after the sun set. Next morning, I painted it, using the scene itself as reference and my memory of the colors. I could have done without the big motorboat who anchored smack in the middle, but such is life on the water. If the wind doesn't swing you away from your view, the tide changes it, or the weather, or boats come and go.
