Phew!

This is a library - generations of cherished books. It is a poor substitute for my parents' warm home, with its bright sea light and sound of seagulls and the piano, smelling of books and baking bread, but it is still a good deal better than having to give up access to the books I have lived in my entire life. I even think my sisters and I should be able to find what we want; most boxes have a room of my mother's house and a subject or the authors on it. The boxes are light enough for a small person to move. The heavy things like the 6 boxes of garden reference books are on bottom shelves where no lifting is involved, and things like the box of family bibles are on the top shelves. Paperback mysteries and all are all together on their own set of shelves. It may not be the most conventional catalogue but I think it will work. And a rough catalogue is better than no catalogue. This feels friendlier, too. We boxed everything last fall but they lived in stacks until last weekend when it finally became un-icy enough to move them.
