Boats

I like boats.  Drawing boats is hard.  That makes painting them fun.  I’m never quite sure what I will wind up with at the end.  If I want to add extra challenge, I paint them from life rather than a photo I’ve shot.  The tide drops, they swing in the wind, the sun moves all the shadows around, and worst of all, someone shows up, starts the engine, and my subject departs.  But it’s all good.  Lots of interesting shapes.  Lots of shadow and light to work with.  A thousand details to deal with.  Lovely hull lines.  Part of the project involves getting better at drawing boats, so my New Year’s Resolution this year was to draw 100 boats.  I’m about a third of the way through.
